Love Undeservedly
by Jennifer Kelly on June 24th, 2014

“I will heal their waywardness and love them freely…” Hosea 14:4

If I only had a few words that I could to use to express the whole thing that is my marriage… it would have to be undeserved love with grace and healing.

Eight years ago today, I said, “I do” to a man that didn’t know what he was getting himself into.  To a man that would love me tirelessly, endlessly and relentlessly. We say all the time that marriage is a covenant. A sacred promise between two people said before God Himself.  Your wedding day is this amazing celebration accompanied with vows and food and friends.  Where we lift up glasses, wear pretty things, and spout out words that change the entire course of our lifetimes.

And it is a profound mystery, isn’t it?

Today is my eight-year anniversary.  An anniversary I sure as heck don’t deserve.  A journey that has had its ups and downs, its tears of joy and tears of sorrow.  An eight-year anniversary of a marriage that comes after time of separation, of sin, and of despair.

An anniversary is a special occasion that should include celebration and an honest look back at the messy, hard, and wonderful thing that can be a promise fulfilled.  As Mike and I are getting ready for a new journey, I find myself completely grateful.  The special kind of grateful that can only come after reconciliation and healing from being broken.  Much after the pain of loss and separation that comes from something you caused.

When I take the time to reflect, I understand why God uses marriage so often in Scripture to paint a picture of our relationship with Him (Romans 7; Hosea; Ephesians 5:22-33).  To be loved is one thing.  To be loved undeservedly, freely, and gracefully after healing and waywardness is something completely different.  It’s a deeper, secret, more meaningful type of love.  It’s the kind of love that Jesus died to give.

So, Happy Anniversary Michael Kelly.  I am sure that you are the best thing that has ever happened to me.  A wonderful and amazing gift from God.  You love me freely and I do not deserve you.

Always and forever.

My Love,

You have a way with words and expression that are second to none. It is truly amazing for me to walk beside you through this journey of life. I am undeserved of your love an forgiveness too. The craziest thing is that through all of the ups and downs one thing has remained constant and true (more so now than ever before): God is still God, God is still good, to God be the glory! You bring out the best in me and I am a better person, husband, and father because of you. I love you Jennifer! Always and Forever, NO MATTER WHAT!

What a beautiful tribute to both of you. I am so thankful that both of you hung in there for the journey that only God could restore and heal. God is going to use you in mighty ways if you stay close to Him.. I know because that is my story, too, and I would not have traded the hard journey for anything..buckle your seatbelt because the best is yet to come!! Love you two!!
